Hasslers create video to recruit film production to Triad

GREENSBORO, NC — Clay and Tiffany Hassler, a husband and wife filmmaking team from Winston-Salem, have produced a three-minute video for the Piedmont Triad Film Commission that encourages producers, directors, and location scouts to bring their next production to the Piedmont Triad. To land the $5,000 contract to produce the video, the Hasslers won a contest this past summer in which area filmmakers submitted 30-second shorts. The contest was funded by an economic development grant from the DataMax Foundation of Winston-Salem.

The film commission screened the new video for its funders on November 1 at an event hosted by the Proximity Hotel. Keith Crisco, North Carolina’s Secretary of Commerce, told attendees that 2011 has been a “banner year” for film production in the state, with more than $200 million of direct spending to date. In support of local funding for the Piedmont Triad Film Commission, Crisco noted that “with a budget of just over $136,000, the film commission facilitated more than $25 million in film production this past year. Now that’s a return any Wall Street banker would take.”

The Hasslers produce content for short films, features, documentaries, commercials and industrials for businesses. Clay received his MFA from The Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts in writing and directing. He serves as a visiting assistant professor of communication at Wake Forest University. Tiffany works as assistant director of the student union at Wake Forest. Together they are producing a documentary about Ardmore, their historic Winston-Salem neighborhood.

“The Hasslers are just the kind of creative talent that we want to keep in this region by bringing more production work here,” says Rebecca Clark, executive director of the Piedmont Triad Film Commission. “Their video is a perfect way to introduce more production companies to this region of North Carolina, giving them a hint of our diverse locations along with all of our crew and our history of great films made here.”

The Piedmont Triad Film Commission is an economic development organization working to generate revenue and jobs by recruiting and facilitating film production in the twelve-county central region of North Carolina.
