A Breakthrough Year for Film Production in the Piedmont Triad

The past year has marked a significant step forward for film and television production in the Piedmont Triad. After several years with limited incentive-qualifying projects filming in the region, the Piedmont Triad Film Commission (PTFC) has helped support two feature films and a television series, bringing production activity and economic impact back to our communities.

Film and television production brings new investment into the regional economy, supporting local jobs and businesses through hotel stays, location rentals, catering, transportation, construction, and many other services. As more productions discover the Triad’s diverse locations, experienced professionals, and collaborative partners, the region continues building momentum as an emerging production hub within North Carolina.

  • Helping facilitate a Shoe Department commercial by coordinating permits and location contacts
  • Connecting a fashion photography shoot with a farm location in Thomasville
  • Assisting music video and short film projects with location suggestions and production contacts

These smaller projects play an important role in keeping local crew working and introducing new filmmakers to the Piedmont Triad.

Building the Regional Film Ecosystem

A successful film industry depends on more than just productions — it requires a strong local network of crew, locations, and industry professionals.

PTFC continues to support the growth of the region’s film community by:

  • Participating in regular Project Space 411 networking events
  • Connecting productions with local crew members for jobs on new productions
  • Encouraging Crew to list themselves in the PTFC database or update their listings
  • Supporting regional film festivals and filmmaking events (we could specify which ones)
  • Promoting films made by North Carolina filmmakers

These efforts help strengthen the local workforce and ensure the region is prepared to support future productions.

Strengthening the Film Commission

As production interest in the Piedmont Triad continues to grow, the Piedmont Triad Film Commission is working to expand its capacity to support filmmakers exploring the region. Increased inquiries from production companies, along with the growing number of projects filming locally, highlight the importance of strengthening the commission’s administrative and marketing resources to ensure productions can continue receiving timely assistance while the region’s film industry continues to develop.

Recent efforts include:

  • Developing a three-year strategic plan
  • Improving financial systems and accounting services
  • Expanding marketing and outreach efforts by contracting with YOU!!
  • Exploring additional administrative and marketing support by hiring local marketing and media expert Suzy Fielders

These steps will help ensure the commission can continue supporting productions while expanding opportunities for the region’s film industry.
